Bayern Munich's Harry Kane disclosed that Manchester United and England icon David Beckham was his childhood hero.
The English striker is relishing a stellar debut season with the German powerhouse, having netted 28 goals across all competitions so far.
His impressive performance for Thomas Tuchel's side has only enhanced his global stature, drawing comparisons to Beckham, who achieved legendary status in football during the 1990s and 2000s.
Kane's career trajectory mirrors that of Beckham, transitioning from the Premier League to join one of Europe's elite clubs.
Now, Kane has revealed that the footballing icon was one of his inspirations during his formative years.
“I used to look up to players like David Beckham’, Kane told BBC Sport. “Now I’m in that situation – there are a lot of young boys and girls looking up to me.
“Looking at what I do, not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well.”
If the former Spurs forward surpasses former Munich star Robert Lewandowski's record of most goals (41) in a single Bundesliga season, it would mark another milestone in his career, having already become the fastest player to reach 20 Bundesliga goals in just 15 games.
“I’m always extremely proud to have those sort of records,” Kane added.
“It’s not something I set out to do at the start but once you hear about them and once people are talking about them, it of course means you’re doing something really well.
“If you’d have told me I was going to do that at the start of the year, of course I’d have taken it – so I’m really happy from that sense, but as always, we try and push and try and see how far we can get.”
With 13 matches still to play in the league and the pace Kane — who has 24 goals in 20 games so far — is scoring goals with, it wouldn't come as a surprise if he becomes the player with the most goals in a single Bundesliga season.
